Timely Topics and Speakers for the Beef Production Convention November 25 in Torrington

The Southeast Wyoming Western Nebraska Beef Production Convention, scheduled for November 25 at Torrington, will feature information on improving ranch profitability as well as updates on important issues facing the beef industry. “Rarely do you get a collection of speakers of this caliber all together at a location close to home,” said Dallas Mount, a University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service (UW CES) educator for Platte, Goshen and Laramie counties. “Both university experts and producers who have on-the-ground experience with the topics will be making presentations at the conference.”
The convention will take place from 9:30 to 4:30 at the Rendezvous Center in Torrington and is sponsored by the University of Wyoming Cooperative Extension Service (UW CES) and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension.
Workshops and presentations will feature top university and industry personnel, as well as producers who will address the immediate issues beef producers in the region are facing.
Workshop subjects include:
• Understanding current market conditions
• Developing wind energy and selling carbon credits on the ranch
• Crossbreeding
• Considerations for wintering stocker/yearlings
• Developing a less expensive replacement female
• Windrow Grazing
• Forage production with limited irrigation
• Key areas of focus for profit on the ranch
• Genetic selection tools
• Range management planning and record keeping for the Carbon Credit Trading program
Pre-registration is requested for a meal count. Registration can be done online at www.plattecountyextension.com or by calling Mount at (307) 322-3667, or Aaron Berger, University of Nebraska-Lincoln Extension Educator in Kimball, Banner and Cheyenne counties, (308) 235-3122.
A flyer with convention details is available at www.plattecountyextension.com.
